Lady Jets Battle South Adams in Unique Format

South Adams opted for a different setup when they hosted Adams Central at Wabash Valley. Instead of standard stroke play, the teams squared off in a two-person best ball scramble, with each pairing competing head-to-head for a single point. The final group of seventh, eighth, and ninth golfers formed a threesome, also playing best ball for the fourth available point. Each matchup carried weight. South Adams’ top duo edged Adams Central’s first pairing of Londyn Smith and Adrienne Johnson, 38–39, for the opening point. The Jets responded with back-to-back wins: their 2nd group (Lily Johnson and Tenley Hendricks) carded a 41 to South Adams’ 46, and the 3 pairing (Sophie Johnson and Isabelle Hammond) posted a 45–50 victory. That left the deciding matchup in the hands of the final group. South Adams’ seventh, eighth, and ninth golfers combined for a 38, besting Adams Central’s (Mel Eicher, Claire Arner, and Rylee Hammond) 41 despite playing one fewer hole. The result created a 2–2 tie. By the rules set before play, the tie went to a chip-off between each team’s top two golfers on the practice green. Adams Central went first, leaving one attempt short and another long. South Adams answered by knocking a shot inside both, clinching the overall win. Although it will not count as a traditional match, the Lady Jets embraced the format, gained valuable short-game experience, and showed grit in a contest that tested more than standard stroke play. In fact, if the meet had been scored under traditional rules, Adams Central would have come out on top with a 166–172 victory.
